Alight works hand in hand with refugees and displaced communities through their entire journey, from initial support to long-term stability.

Our 2,300 humanitarians co-create solutions with and for more than 4 million people in over 20 countries every year. We do this by working closely with them to address their needs, developing local partnerships to build resilience, and amplifying the efforts of donors who make abundance happen.

To bring about a world in which displaced persons are empowered to rebuild, thrive, and enrich their communities, Alight is investing efforts across five focus areas:

Climate displacement

Over the past decade, climate events triggered an average of 21.5 million new displacements each year—more than twice as many as those caused by conflict and violence. Alight works to keep people from being displaced, and we co-create livelihood and education programs with those who are forced to migrate. We also redesign settlements to focus on sustainability, introducing innovations such as solar power and water conservation solutions that protect the future of their regions.

Health

We provide a wide range of health programs around the world, including: disease prevention and control; emergency health care and obstetrics; primary & reproductive health care; and immunizations. Alight implements innovative and inclusive solutions to ensure that all beneficiaries have ready and equal access to quality medical care regardless of geographic location, sex, economic status, or medical condition.

Shelter

One of the first and most basic things any person who had fled their own home needs is a roof over their head where they can feel safe and begin the process of recovery. Over the years Alight has provided a diversity of shelter support, from emergency and transitional housing to construction of community kitchens and other vital structures.

Emergency response

Alight began with an emergency response on the Thai-Cambodian border in 1979, and since then we have responded to dozens of natural and man-made disasters. Generally, we respond in times of emergency when we can quickly mobilize teams who are nearby and when we believe Alight can contribute something to the overall international response that would otherwise be lacking.
